Mohanlal gets bail in Azhikode defamation case

It was granted on two solvent sureties and a bond valued at Rs.20,000

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal almost caused a stampede outside the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Thrissur, when he arrived to secure bail in a defamation case filed by writer-critic Sukumar Azhikode. The bail was granted on two solvent sureties and a bond valued at Rs. 20,000. The defamation suit was filed by Azhikode following a nasty war of words with the superstar, over veteran character actor Thilakan. It all began when the writer came out in support of Thilakan, who was expelled from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) on grounds of indiscipline. It was Azhikode, who first launched a scathing tirade against the superstar – an office bearer of AMMA – claiming that the actor had become old and should limit himself to roles matching his age and figure. Mohanlal retorted with an uncharacteristic choice of words, which the writer took offence at. The superstar allegedly said he considered Azhikode’s statements “an avuncular joke”, and that the veteran writer had been hallucinating on the issue.

Naduvazhikal 2

Naduvazhikal , which was a superhit of mohanlal in nintees is set to have a sequel this year. Directed by Joshi and scripted by S.N Swamy ,Old Naduvazhikal released in 1989.

Second part of Naduvazhikal will be directed by Shaji kailas and Scripted by S.N Swamy. Naduvazhikal 2 will have Prithviraj in lead role. Prithviraj is working with filmmaker Shaji kailas for the first time in this movie. The other cast details are awaited. S Chandrakumar will produce Naduvazhikal 2 under the banner of Malavika Productions. Shoot will start by August 2010.

Navya Nair to wed Santosh Menon on Jan 21

Recently, actress Navya Nair was engaged to Santhosh Menon from Changancherry, who was working as a vice-president of an advertising company in Mumbai. Their parents nearly took a month to fix the marriage date and arranged the ceremony on January 21.

The family members have planned to host the marriage around 9 AM at Chepadu in Azhapuzha in a traditional Kerala style. A grand reception will be held on the same evening at Changancherry where with who’s who of Malayalam film industry taking part in it.

Navya Nair made her debut in Tamil cinema with ‘Azhagiya Theeye’ and gained appreciations for the extraordinary performances in Chidambarathil Oru Appasami, Pasa Kizhigal, Amirtham, Maya Kannadi and Raman Thediya Seethai.

At present, she has paired with with Mammooty, Suresh Gopi and Dhilip in Malayalam films and has signed a Tamil film Gowravargal.

Yodha was a superhit malayalam movie which was made way back in 1992 under the direction of Santhosh Sivan which features superstar Mohanlal and Jagathy Sreekumar in pivotal roles and shot in the picturesque locations of Nepal is ready for a second homecoming. Yodha 2 is in the anvil and plans are being made to make a sequel at the earliest.

Santhosh Sivan is planning to come back to the Malayalam film industry through this sequel. Yodha was not only a blockbuster success but also a movie which was novel in many ways. As per the sources Mohanlal has already allocated the dates for this movie.

As per the story part, the sequel will start off from where the prequel had ended. Puneet Issar, who had essayed the villain’s roles will be seen in the sequel also. This big budgest movie is expected to rope in Lakshmi Rai as the heroine as against Urvashi and Madhubala who had played the heroines in Yodha . Harris Jayraj would score the music for the sequel and Santhosh Sivan would weild the camera. The rocking Jagathy-Mohanlal team is back and lets wait for it.

Famous Director AK Lohithadas Passes Away

Kochi: Noted Malayalam movie director A K Lohithadas passed away at Ernakulam Lissy Hospital at 11 am here on Sunday . According to sources, Lohitadas suffered a heart attack, which led to the sudden demise. Lohithadas was in Kochi to attend the general body meeting of AMMA, later admitted to hospital due to physical discomfort.His wife and children were in hospital at the time of his death. Hearing the news the meeting of AMMA has been called off and the movie artists rushed to the hospital.

Ambazhathail Karunakaran Lohithadas hailing from Chalakkudy is a prolific screenwriter and director who is known for his rich, detailed, and realistic screenplays. He showed an initial interest was in short-stories, but failed to make a mark in that genre. He soon moved into Malayalam theater in 1986 when his debut script was accepted for the stage by the legendary theater personality Thoppil Bhasi. Bhasi's CPI party backed drama troupe, the highly successful 'Kerala People's Arts Club', produced the play, leading to a state award for Lohithadas.

Fresh with the play's commercial and critical success, Lohithadas moved to Malayalam Cinema by writing for director Sibi Malayil. His first movie screenplay Thaniavarthanam was directed by Malayil and went on to be a success. The Sibi Malayil-Lohithadas combination would later produce several memorable Malayalam movies.

Lohithdas movies are well known for its deep and realistic characterization and are often grim depiction of contemporary Kerala life. In spite of its serious subjects, they have been highly successful in the state. His movies lay less emphasis on plot or commercial gimmicks and, instead, display a more character-oriented approach. He is a prolific writer, often writing nearly four screenplays a year. He turned director with his critically acclaimed 1997 film Bhoothakannadi (The Magnifying Glass).

Other than Bhoothakannadi he directed movies like Kanmadham, Ormacheppu, Arayannangalude Veedue, Chakram, Joker, Kasthooriman, Chakkaramuthu and Nivedhyam . He is the script writer of noted films like Thaniyavarthanam, Kireedom, Chenkol, Sallapam, Amaram, Thoovalkottaram, Ormacheppu, Joker, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, Bharatham, Dasaratham , Kamaladalam, Valsalyam, His Highness Abdullah,Vengalam, Valayam etc.

The film Bhoothakannadi won him the 45th National Film Award for Best film in 1997. Other awards inlcude Kerala State Film Award for Best Story - Thaniyavarthanam, 1987, Kerala State Film Award for Best Film - Bhoothakannadi (1997) , Tamil Nadu State Film Award for 2nd Best Film-Kasthooriman. The incident happened at Kottayam ( Kerala ) when she arrived to attend a private function on Tuesday. After the function, she entered a star hotel. During this time a fellow started to take pictures. After three clicks Nayanthara asked to stop taking pictures. But he continued it. Immediately Nayan reached the fellow and snatched the camera. She smashed it against the floor. The bodyguards of Nayan rushed to the scene and manhandled the fellow. With the intervention of the Hotel staff the fellow escaped from it. Later police arrived there. As Nayan did not launch any complaint to the police, no case was registered against the fellow.
