Sachin Tendulkar started to fire from the word go to give India just the kind of start they needed after opting to bat first against South Africa in the second one-dayer in Gwalior.

But Virender Sehwag fell early to Wayne Parnell.

Thereafter, Tendulkar and Karthik started to consolidate the innings with the former being more dominat of the two.

Tendulkar completed his half-century in almost no time to lay a solid platform for India in the able company of Dinesh Karthik.

Karthik also completed his fifty as the duo put India right on top.

Tendulkar then went on to hit his 46th one-day century to take India past the 200-run mark in 31 overs.

However, Karthik departed after playing a superb knock of 79.

Tendulkar continued to hit runs even as Yusuf Pathan joined him in the middle.

Yusuf then departed but Tendulkar continued to fire all cylinders to pile up runs to take India's score past 300 runs.

Captain MS Dhoni came

The Indian batsmen are in good nick but the worrying factor for the hosts is the bowling department as they leaked too many runs in the series opener and received an unexpected bashing at the hands of tail-enders Dale Steyn and Wayne Parnell in Jaipur.

What looked like a one-sided contest in India's favour at one stage became an edge-of-the-seat thriller as the host bowlers let go their grip over the match with their wayward line. India, though, managed to pull it off by just a run, the closest of victory margins.

It was a psychological blow for the South Africans, who have been labelled chokers for losing close matches on a regular basis, but they are expected to come hard at the Indians at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium.

They failed to dislodge India from the number one spot in Test rankings after losing the Kolkata Test so the Proteas would do everything to give themselves a chance to at least snatch back the number two position in the one-day rankings.

The team who which wins this series will end the year as number two behind world champions Australia.
