Trade pundits had predicted that ‘Vinodayatra’, which caught the imagination of family audience, is the Vishu winner. But reports from Ernakulam have a different story to tell.
Now that all the schools and colleges has re-opened, ‘Vinodayatra’, which was banking solely on family audience, saw a steep decline in its collection, much to everyone’s surprise. So in the long run it turns out that ‘Chota Mumbai’ is the Vishu winner. Both films completed 60 days.
It is notable all this while, apart from Ernakulam, ‘Chota Mumbai’ was way ahead in collection throughout in almost all other centers across the state. After some initial setbacks at Ernakulam, ‘Chota Mumbai’ again overtook ‘Vinodayatra’ in terms of collection. After its phenomenal initial collection, the film saw decline in collection as compared to ‘Vinodayatra’, which had decent collection throughout, until recently.
Meanwhile ‘Big B’, another superstar film that had exceptional initial collection, is finding it hard to sustain its position. One of it’s biggest drawback is that it is targeted at youth.
But the box-office status of ‘Goal’ and ‘Time’, both having reputed directors, is pitiful. The presence of Suresh Gopi made little difference to ‘Time’. And Kamal realized that hit songs shot at exotic locations wouldn’t make a film a success.
After people lost interest in ‘Big B’, lot was expected from ‘Kakhi’, but the film was disappointing. Despite some good mouth-publicity, it couldn’t make the cash registers ringing.
