Stalwarts ‘meet’ on the stage

Different domain: Mammootty enacts characters from M. T. Vasudevan Nair’s novel ‘Randamoozham’ at a stage show in Thrissur on Friday.

Thrissur: Actor Mammootty charmed audiences with his portrayal of characters from writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s novel, ‘Randamoozham,’ at a stage show here on Friday.

In a 45-minute show titled ‘Bheemam,’ organised by Malayala Manorama, the actor slipped into the roles of Bheema, Arjuna, Karna and Yudhishtira.

Show directors T.K. Rajeev Kumar and Pramod Payyannur left no stone unturned in bolstering Mammootty’s image as someone who implicitly values the craft of an actor over trappings of a movie star.

With Mammootty’s looks and deep voice, neatly-choreographed performance by 13 supporting actors and multimedia projection, the show was an audio-visual delight.

“I am glad that he (Mammootty) found time for this experimental production. He likes ‘Randamoozham.’ We did not venture to adapt the novel into a film, knowing the challenges in visually interpreting a story of epic dimension,” said MT. “This is a journey through the agonies and ecstasies of the characters from the Mahabharatha. I salute Vyasa who left silences between the words. I salute MT who infused meaning into those pregnant silences,” Mammootty said.
