Hits of 2007=1

1. Mayavi The biggest among the last year’s hits was Mayavi - the Mammootty starrer directed by Shafi. The movie which was released in the early months of February had a free run with out any competition till the arrival of Vishu films. Its sixty days of great collections made it the biggest grosser of the year. The film ran to hundred days in select theatres in all important metros. The film which had, Gopika, Manoj K Jayan, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Salimkumar, Vijayaraghavan in other important roles was special with the light hearted characterization of Mammootty in a comedy role, in the scripts of ace directors Rafi - Mecartin.

2. Hello

This was the share of Mohanlal in the four mega hits of 2007.The film also had, Parvathy Melton, Jagathy, Siddhique, Salimkumar and Sooraj Venjaramoodu in important characters which was told in the scripts of director Rafi - Mecartin. The film excelled in its racy narrative with slapstick comedies, becoming a clean family entertainer, with a directors turning a near to perfect combination with the master actor who has once again displayed his carefree style with elegance. Mohanlal’s drunken comic act, the songs, handling of suspense and good cinematography were the other highlights of this movie, which had a good run even in the Onam season.

3. Chocolate

This was the first super success of Prithviraj as an independent hero. Ably supported by Jayasurya, Salimkumar, Roma, Samvrutha , Remya ,Sooraj, Venjaranmoodu and Rajan P Dev, the film instantly become the film for the campuses. This is the second mega hit by director Shafi in 2007, after Mayavi. The unique storyline of a boy coming to study in a women’s college, by debutante Sachi-Sethu, gave all the space to integrate all the essentials for a commercial success. Shafi shows his real smart penchant for hit-craft which he applies brilliantly to hold the flick together and present it at a lightning pace towards a jovial finish. Chocolate is one of those films, that aren't as much about the ending, as it is about the journey, which is hilarious, heart-warming and pleasant. And yet the most important point is that the flick tremendously entertains. The remake rights of the film was sold at astronomical rates.

4. Vinodhayathra


Dileep has been more than happy with this solo mega hit in 2007. Director Sathyan Anthikkad continued his winning streak, once gain becoming the favorites of the family with his straight narrations, localized plots and quality family sentiments. The undercurrent of humor and placement of subtle humor dialogues that seems natural at the best and the smooth transitions in the proceedings is the highlight of this Sathyan movie as well. The film ran to 125 days and was the winner among the Vishu releases. Ilayaraja's hit songs and great performances from Meera Jasmine, Murali, Mukesh and Seetha was the other highlights of the movie.

5. Katha Parayumbol
This Christmas release starring Sreenivasan, and Mammootty in a lengthy cameo opened extremely well and shows signs for becoming a big hit. The film also has Mukesh, Meena, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Salimkumar and Innocent in good roles. Directed by debutante M.Mohanan, Sreenivasn's superior script and the great climax can be said to be the recipe of its success. The film is undoubtedly the Christmas winner in all terms.
